The textile industry plays a significant role in the economy of Pakistan. However, due to being labour-intensive, this industry subjects its employees to different occupational hazards, such as dust, chemicals, noise and machine-related hazards. While PPE is a vital part of occupational safety, no substantial studies have investigated the effect of PPE compliance on injury prevention in the textile industry in Pakistan. This study investigates the relationship between PPE compliance and injury risks experienced by workers by studying their experiences and perceptions. An interpretive philosophy and a qualitative research method were applied. Data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews with five textile workers, and thematic analysis was used for data analysis. The results revealed that the factors affecting PPE compliance included equipment availability, comfort, safety training, management support, supervision and safety culture at the workplace. The participants recognized the significance of PPE as a measure for prevention. However, they stated that PPE alone will not be able to prevent occupational injuries in the absence of safety management and hazard control measures.
